Gyokuro Mikoto is a premium shade-grown Japanese green tea, known for its high levels of umami flavor. This tea is cultivated using the traditional method of oishitaen, where the tea plants are shaded from direct sunlight for about 20 days before harvesting. This process enhances the tea's natural sweetness and reduces bitterness by increasing the amino acid content and suppressing tannins. Infusion: To prepare Gyokuro, use 12 grams of tea leaves per liter of water. The recommended infusion time is between 1.5 to 3 minutes, and the ideal water temperature is around 70?C. Taste and Aroma: Gyokuro Mikoto has a deep umami flavor, intense sweetness, and a smooth, full-bodied taste with a long-lasting aftertaste. The tea leaves are dark emerald green due to the high chlorophyll content from partial shade-growth.
